Position Overview: We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Student Ministry Leader to lead our middle and high school ministry. The ideal candidate will have a heart for youth ministry and a desire to help students know, grow, and flourish in their relationship with Jesus Christ. This is a part-time position with the opportunity for increased compensation based on the candidate’s success in growing and developing the Student Ministry.
Role Summary: The Youth Leader will shepherd, disciple, and mobilize the youth at the Pursuit Christian Fellowship. This person will design and lead relevant programming, build deep relationships, equip volunteer leaders, partner with parents, and integrate youth ministry into the broader life of the church.
Key Responsibilities
- Build authentic relationships with students in grades 6–12
- Teach biblical truth in ways that are engaging, relevant, and age-appropriate
- Create safe, fun, and welcoming environments where students can ask questions and grow in faith
- Equip students to live out and share their faith with friends and classmates
- Plan, lead, and teach at weekly youth gatherings / small groups / Bible studies
- Organize and oversee retreats, mission trips, camps, discipleship tracks, and service opportunities
- Recruit, train, equip, and mentor volunteer youth leaders
- Develop age-appropriate curriculum and teaching series (or adapt existing ones)
- Provide care, and discipleship to youth
- Communicate effectively with youth, parents, church staff, and congregation
- Engage youth in broader church events, worship, and ministries
- Maintain youth ministry budget, resources, and logistics
- Partner with parents, schools, and community organizations to extend outreach; regularly attend school and other community events featuring students.
- Represent youth ministry in staff meetings and contribute to church vision and strategy
- Adhere to and enforce child safety / background check policies
- Support and assist the Pastor in ministry responsibilities as designated.
Qualifications & Characteristics
Required:
- Must have a vibrant, deep, growing, and authentic faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of their life and the ability to articulate the meaning of that faith and share it with others.
- Alignment with PCF’s doctrinal statement
- Has humility and confidence in the Lord
- Loves the Bible and sees it as the ultimate source of truth in this life.
- Has a heart for prayer and dependence on God
- Has solid knowledge of Scripture and the ability to apply biblical truth to everyday life
- Has a call from God to help equip the found and pursue the lost
- Some experience in youth ministry (volunteer or staff, 2+ yrs. preferred)
- Strong relational ability with teenagers and volunteer leaders; loves people and approachable
- Competent teaching, communication, and leadership skills
- Be a part of a weekly fellowship group.
- Organizational, planning, and project management capabilities
- Availability for youth related and church events (Evenings, weekends, or as needed)
- The attitude that this is not a job, but a passionate calling.
Preferred / Bonus:
- Bachelor’s degree or certificate in theology, ministry, Christian education, or related field
- Formal training in youth ministry
- Experience running retreats, mission trips, camping ministry
- Skilled in digital / social media / youth communication technologies
- Ability to cast vision and grow a youth ministry
AUTHORITY:
The Student Ministry Leader reports directly to the Pastor and is considered a part of the Church Staff.
